Revenue Bar Association
Dear Members of the Revenue Bar Fraternity,
I
t gives me immense pleasure and pride to pen this note for the inaugural edition of “Lex Fiscale — the official newsletter of the Revenue Bar Association”, a vibrant manifestation of our shared purpose, professional passion, and intellectual pursuit. Lex Fiscale seeks to be a lighthouse amidst the churning sea of ever-evolving tax laws, illuminating both the shores of settled doctrine and the waves of emerging jurisprudence.
Every great institution begins with a bold idea and a few brave hearts to breathe life into it. The founders of the Revenue Bar Association were such visionaries. With clarity of purpose and commitment to excellence, they envisioned a platform that would bring together professionals in the field of taxation to foster learning, uphold ethical advocacy, and promote camaraderie.
Founded on 20th February 1963, the Revenue Bar Association owes its origins to the foresight and conviction of legendary visionaries such as Shri. K. Parasaran, Shri. M.M. Ismail, and Shri. T.V. Viswanatha Iyer. These stalwarts of the Bar laid the foundation for an institution that would go on to shape the landscape of tax jurisprudence in the country.
With humility, we pay tribute to these pioneers whose dream we now proudly carry forward. The legacy of the Revenue Bar Association has been shaped and steered by a galaxy of illustrious Past Presidents visionaries who combined legal brilliance with selfless leadership. Their contributions laid the foundation upon which we continue to build. Each past President has left an indelible mark be it through institutional growth, spirited representation of the Bar’s interests, or mentoring generations of young professionals. As we unveil Lex Fiscale, we stand on the shoulders of these stalwarts, drawing strength from their legacy and inspiration from their ideals.
We honour them, we remember them, and we continue their mission. This journal is more than a mere collation of articles. It is a chronicle of the dynamism of our members, reflecting the sharp intellect, forensic acumen, and scholarly depth that define the Revenue
Bar. In its pages, we find not just analyses and judgments, but the pulse of a Bar that is constantly evolving ready to question, to interpret, to litigate, and to lead.
Let us take a moment to celebrate the minds and hands behind this noble effort. Eachcontributor whether in the realm of direct tax, indirect tax, customs, GST, PMLA or academic commentary has illuminated a facet of the complex legal tapestry we navigate daily. Their dedication to detail, clarity, and originality is what makes this newsletter not just readable, but revered. To the editorial team, who have burnt the midnight oil to bring this initiative to life—you have done more than compile a publication, you have sparked a movement of minds.
Looking ahead, the future of the Revenue Bar Association is as promising as it is powerful. We stand at the confluence of tradition and transformation. As laws evolve and boundaries blur, we must equip ourselves not just with statutes and precedents, but with vision, versatility, and vigor. This newsletter will serve as our intellectual compass, guiding the Bar towards greater cohesion, clarity, and clout.
Let The Law Journal “Lex Fiscale – RBA” be a torchbearer for the future, lighting the path for young minds, fostering collaboration, and setting benchmarks in legal thought. Let it evolve as a space where the law is not just reported but reasoned, critiqued, and enriched.
Let us together strive to build a strong, erudite, and future-ready Revenue Bar one that commands respect in the courtroom and contributes meaningfully in shaping the tax laws of tomorrow. Let this newsletter be our battle cry of brilliance, our manifesto of mastery, and our tribute to the timeless spirit of advocacy.
Together, let us build a knowledgeful, dynamic, and united Revenue Bar not just fit for oday’s challenges but equipped for tomorrow’s transformations.
